He was born in Aleksinac on 24th of May 1952. He attended his primary school in Deligrad and Rutevac, and he finished the high technical school „Nikola Tesla“ Niš. He enrolled to the Faculty of Civil Engineering (GF) of the University of Niš in 1971 and graduated in 1977 at the Chair of Structural engineering, of the Traffic engineering department, on the subject of Concrete bridges. In 1978 he enrolled to the post-graduate studies in the field of structural engineering at the same faculty and obtained his master degree in 1983. In the period between 1984 and 1987 he worked on the doctoral dissertation in Germany, at the Ruhr University in Bochum (RUB) in the field of lateral-torsional stability of glued laminated wooden beams. He defended the doctoral dissertation, positively assessed by the international committee, at the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the University of Niš in 1987. In his scientific and professional work, he can read, write and speak Serbian, German, English and Russian languages.
He started working at the faculty in 1977 as an associate of the GF Institute, and later in 1978 as an assistant at the Chair of Structural engineering, where he taught the subjects Mechanics I, Concrete structures, Timber structures, Scaffolds and bridges. He elected assistant professor at the Chair of Structural engineering in 1988. After that mandate expired, he was elected associate professor. He was elected full professor at the Chair of Materials and Structures of the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Architecture (GAF) in 1998. In the period between 1991and 1996 he was a vice-dean for scientific-research work at the Faculty, as well as the director of the Institute of Civil Engineering and Architecture. As a vice-dean at his faculty, he started a number of scientific-research projects of graduate and technological studies which provided good results and stimulated scientific activities of the faculty. In the period 1996-2000 and 2003-2018 he was the head of Chair of Materials and Structures. Starting from 2003 he was in a longer period a head of the study program in the field of civil engineering, and since 2012 he as the position of a vice-dean for scientific-research work of the Faculty, as well as the director of the Institute of Civil Engineering and Architecture.
At his faculty, he now teaches the subjects of the scientific area of Structures in Civil Engineering. He taught several subjects at graduate studies at the Civil Engineering Faculty of Belgrade in the period 1991-2003, and at post-graduate studies in the period since 2003 to 2005. He also taught at the Faculties of Technical Sciences in Novi Sad and Priština. In 2004 and 2005, he taught in English at the master studies course, titled: International Master of Science Program “ Computational Engineering-Timber Structures“, at the Civil Engineering Faculty in Belgrade, in the framework of the international scientific-research project DYNET.
He has been mentor for production of eight doctoral dissertations, six master theses and he has been a mentor of a large number of graduate and master theses of researchers – scholarship holders in scientific research projects. He has been a mentor during scientific-research work of students and young assistants whose papers were published in the University journal “Young scientists”. He was appointed a member of Committee for defense of a doctoral dissertation in India, at the National Institute of Technology, Warangal) in 2016, and he was proposed as a Committee member for defense of a doctoral dissertation in Germany whose defense is expected during 2018 at the Ruhr University in Bochum.
After signing of the Berlin Communiqué of Serbian joining the Bologna process in 2003, the candidate actively participates in the high education reform of Civil Engineering structural designing at his faculty, as a head of the Chair for Structural Engineering and head of the Civil Engineering division. The result of work in this area were new curricula for new study programs with three levels of studies (basic, graduate and doctoral studies), which became effective in October 2006. At the doctoral studies, he introduces new scientific are in structural research “Adaptive systems, reliability and monitoring of structures“ where he teaches: Reliability of structures, Monitoring and structural status assessment, Mathematical modeling of structures and Mathematical modeling of connections in structures. He realized this program with the support of professors from the University of Bochum and London, who, apart from teaching a part of the lectures at the doctoral studies, provided access of the doctor candidates to their laboratories, software and literature.
He is the member of the Senate of the University of Niš starting form 2015. He is the director of the Fund for housing of young scientific workers and artists of the University of Niš, starting from 2016. He is the president of the „Association of descendants and admirers of the heroes of Battles at Deligrad 1806-1813“ since 1999.
The scientific-research work with topic of lateral-torsional stability began with the study visit at the Rurh University of Bochum, Germany in 1984 which was focused on production of his doctoral dissertation. Further, during his stay in Germany, he took part in two scientific-research projects in the periods 1986-1988 and 1988 - 1991. His seven0year work on these projects led him to perfect the original nolinear mathematical 3D-model of a beam with realistic joint rigidities, for determination of parameters of lateral-torsional stability according to the second order theory. A total of eight scientific papers in this research field were published in German language, and they are highly quoted in the German-speaking scientific community. The papers are particularly cited in scientific books, textbooks and doctoral dissertations. In his further work in scientific-research projects, after 1991, he dealt with mathematical modeling of deformable connections, as well as with detections of material imperfections in structures. In the National strategic-research projects in the period 1994-2000, the candidate performs a specific form research, aimed at monitoring, usage, improvement and amendment of standards and codes for structural design, and harmonization of these documents with Eurocodes and international standards. Starting from 2008 until this day, he works on the project of theoretical and experimental analysis of interaction of shallow foundations and soil for the purpose of improving the national regulations and implementation of the Eurocode system.
He was a participant in a total of eight international projects, those being: three scientific-research projects, two with Germany and one with the European Union (European research project, Brussels „Control of the semi-rigid behavior of civil engineering structural connections-COST Project C1“,1990; in three scientific-educational projects, two with Germany and one with the UK. He is a participant in the project „ESF 3.102 WBS“ in the area of education (lifelong and distant learning) supported by the European Social Fund, for the needs of Malta, lasting from 2013-2015. He is a participant of interregional project“ IPA CBC Project TABLE , Bulgaria-Serbia“, 2014.
The candidate took part in scientific-research national projects: in three projects in the field of basic research, in seven strategic-technological projects and in one innovation project, which makes a total of eleven projects funded by the state and industry. He was a manager of one basic research project, manager of one project of technological development and manager of two national subprojects of technological development and one scientific topic.
Indicators of scientific, professional and pedagogic work
He published a total of 206 scientific works, of which 40 in international journals, two university textbooks, one exercise book in two editions and one practicum in two edition, three collections of standards, two monographs of national importance, eight chapters in monographs of national importance, two chapters in monographs of international importance, three books of translations from German to Serbian, containing lecture books for the students of Master studies at the University of Ruhr of Bochum.
He was a visiting lecturer at: four seminar lectures at the Ruhr University of Bochum, Germany, one lecture in Macedonia (Ohrid), two lectures in Croatia (Pula, Cavtat), Four lectures in Serbia, in the framework of the congress JDGK/DGKS (Belgrade , N. Banja).
The citation of the papers, according to the data from the University Library “Svetozar Marković“ is 26 citations, and the Hirsch index is 2. The high citation index of the papers is worth noting, from other sources of citations, in 10 books (textbooks and professional books) and in scientific journals in Germany, (in 1991), where these papers have been cited in the period of over 25 years, as documented by the citation in the book „Der Eurocode 5 für Deutschland: DIN EN 1995 Kommentierte Fassung“, issue of 2016, by K. Lissner, W. Rug.
In his scientific work, he reads, writes and speaks Serbian, German, English and Russian languages .
He is the author of a number of professional projects from the field of structural engineering of buildings important for the state and the regions, and of expertise and studies in the field of civil engineering. He is a participant of a number of supervision and project management in construction of civil engineering structures in our country and abroad.

He was a member of a total of 36 scientific, program and organization committees in 18 international and 18 national scientific meetings. He was a president of one organization board and president of several scientific meetings.
Editing international and national journals
He is Editor–in-Chief of the Scientific Journal Facta universitatis of the Series Architecture and Civil Engineering ,University of Niš. He is the editor of two journals of national importance: „Nauka i praksa“ (Science and practice) and „Zbornik radova građevinsko-arhitektonskog fakulteta u Nišu“ (Proceedings of the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Architecture of Nis). Results of his work and actions here and abroad
- Study stay and participation in the scientific project in Germany at the Ruhr University, Bochum
In the framework of partnership of the Ruhr University, Bochum and Niš, in the period 1984-1986, the candidate stayed in Germany at the Ruhr University in Bochum, in the KIB Institute (Institut fuer Konstruktiven Ingenieurbau), for the purpose of producing his doctoral dissertation. In the period 04.1986 - 11.1988. he participated in the scientific project titled: “Stabilitaetsverhalten von BSH-Bindern (Projektnummer: 938000092)“ by E. Reyer, H.P.Cramer, D. Stojić. The project was don at RUB. Within th project, the doctoral dissertation was completed in 1987. The report of review of the dissertation was positively evaluated by the mentor prof. M. Gojković, from the GF in Belgrade, comentor prof. E. Reyer from the RUB and prof. V. Brčića from the GF in Belgrade. Upon completion of the project in 1988, he held two seminar lectures at RUB, the first under the title: „Zum Stand der Forschung auf dem Gebiet des Kippens von Brettschichtholztraegern“ and the second under the title:“ Lateral buckling of glued laminated beams“ in English. In his further research, starting from 1988, he is the participant in the project “Kippen in den Baukonstruktionen” at RUB. He held two seminar lectures in 1991 as visiting lecturer at RUB with the topics titled:„Stability and Control of Semi-rigid Behavior of the Civil Engineering Structural Connections“ and „ Out-of-Plane Buckling of Glulam Beams and Columns“. In 1991 and 1992 he published three papers in German journals, which were and still are frequently cited in Germany and Switzerland.
- Participation in the scientific-educational project “DYNET- Network in Civil Engineering for Teaching and Research in Structural Dynamics“
D. Stojić is a signee of the protocol of 2000 on the academic cooperation of Southeast Europe „Academic Reconstruction South-East-Europe (SEE)“ and the German - RUB, for the purpose of exchange of professors and lectures and literature in the field of civil engineering with the support of Germany in development of high education of engineers from Niš, Skopje and Sarajevo, and of support with equipment for experimental research, in terms of computers and software and free usage of services of electronic libraries in production of common scientific projects. The project is approved under the title: “DYNET- Network in Civil Engineering for Teaching and Research in Structural Dynamics“ and financed by the German service of academic exchange DAAD (Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Dienst). D. Stojić is the founder and project-coordinator of DYNET CENTER NIŠ (DCN) at GAF which is equipped with contemporary multi-media devices for education of postgraduates. During the project 2000-2004 the cooperation extended from the RUB to other universities in Germany (Aachen, Kassel, Weimar, Stuttgart) and Japan (Okayama), and through the DYNET centre of Niš to the countries in the region: Serbia and Montenegro, Macedonia Romania, Bulgaria provided 143 scholarship grants for Master studies and 10 grants for doctoral dissertations. D. Stojić had a leading role in the region for the duration of the project. A large number of scientific papers and books were published.
- Participation in the scientific-educational project SEEFORM- „South East European Graduate School for Master and PhD Formation”
In the continuation of the DYNET project, in 2004-2016, SEEFORM (South East European – German network for research and education) was established, where the project was continued. The cooperation is extended to the universities in Germany (Munich, Cottbus, KIT Karlsruhe, RTWH Aachen, TU Berlin, TU Dortmund, and through DCN to the universities in Serbia (Niš, Belgrade, Novi Sad, Subotica), and to the universities in Croatia (Split, Osjek), Bosnia and Herzegovina (Sarajevo, Mostar), Albania in which the doctoral studies within the project were started. In total in the DYNET / SEEFORM projects during 16 years, were scholarship grants for 232 master students and 188 PhD students from the region, the most candidates coming from Serbia. For the needs of the students on the project, D. Stojić translated and published three books of certain teaching units from German to Serbian. During the time on the project, there was a large number of progress-seminars, workshops and scientific meetings, and a large number of scientific papers in the country and abroad was published.

In 2011, he stayed at City University London, School of Mathematics, Computer Science & Engineering, for the study of high school engineering education in Great Britain, within the program “Staff exchange“. In the continuation of cooperation in the period 2011-2014 he participated as a „Honorary Visiting Fellow of City University London“ in the research on the project in the field of Structural reliability, where three our PhD students, scholarship holders, participated.
- The results in education and activities of the candidate in Serbia
After Prof. Milan Gojković retired in 1991, D. Stojić took over the teaching at the Faculty of Civil Engineering of Belgrade, at undergraduate studies in the period 1991-2003, of the subjects Timber structures I, Timber structures II, Metal and Timber structures and Bridges, and at postgraduate studies in the field of Timber structures in 1996/97. In the period 1991-2003 he taught at the faculties in Serbia: Niš, Belgrade, Priština and occasionally Novi Sad.
- The results in the innovative strategy of education of high education engineering personnel
Starting from 2002, he actively participates in a large number of seminars, workshops and conferences in Germany (Bonn, Berlin), Bulgaria (Sofia), Spain (Valencia), Czech Republic (Olomouc), UK (London), which were devoted to the reform and integration of high school engineering education in Europe. In the framework of the program „South-North-Dialogue on Innovative Strategies in International Post-Graduate- Education: Challenges, Obstacles an Best Practices“, during 2002, he stayed in Germany at the University of Bonn (Rheinische Friedrich- Wilhelms) in cooperation with the German Center for research of European integration „Zentrum fur Europaeische Integrationsforschung (ZEI)“, and with the Center for developmental research “Zentrum für Entwicklungsforschung (ZEF) ” and participated in the workshops devoted to reform and integration of higher education in Europe. He participated in the work in making main guidelines of the Bologna process in Europe at seminars of the Bonn University, in the presence of German Rector Conference HRK and DAAD. He further participated, in the continuation of the seminar of the higher education study in Berlin, at Humbolt University , and in the conclusive discussion in the German Parliament – Bundestag at Friedrich Eber Platz. He is the participant of the international conference in the field of engineering education and research „International Conference on Engineering Education and Research iCEER-ISC –USA“, since 2003 and he has been a member of their „International Steering Committee“.
He is the coordinator of the project (2016-2018) „Improvement of interest of licensed architects and licensed engineers “ within the Engineering initiative for regional cooperation (IIRS), which includes the Chamber of engineers of investment designing of Bulgaria (KIIP) Chamber of licensed engineers and licensed engineers of Macedonia (KOAOIRM), Chamber of Engineers of Slovenia (IZS), Chamber of Engineers of Serbia (IKS), Chamber of civil engineers of Croatia (HKGI), Chamber of electrical engineers of Croatia (HKIE).
Impact of the results on the society and development of modern technologies
The impact of the results of work of prof. Dragoslav Stojić on the development of contemporary technologies is reflected in the following scientific research work:
- mathematical modeling of support systems of the structures with movable joints in nodes and in application of the model for design of connections with mechanical connectors in frame timber structures, and solution for lateral-torsional stability of slender spatial support systems.
- development of reliability and probabilistic concept of structural design, from the aspect of time monitoring of the structure and prediction of future status.
- introduction and development of contemporary technologies of laminated and cross-wise glued -CLT structures in Serbia and design of connections, in accordance with the technological limitations of production, assembling and transport of structures.
-application of modern technologies of adaptive systems and smart aggregates in modeling, simulation and detection of structural damage which will have huge importance for monitoring of structures in Serbia and lead to large savings in the maintenance system and structure revitalization.
The effect of its working results on development of economy, education and society as a hole is reflected in the results of professional and scientific project, in the expertise and published professional books and textbooks.
